Sugramill Woods is located near the Gulf Coast of Central Florida in Citrus County. Just a few miles south of Homosassa, Florida. Citrus County is located along Florida's west-central coast bordering the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 70 miles north of Tampa and 60 miles northwest of Orlando.

The Homosassa Springs and Weeki Wachi Springs, the crystal clear waters of the Homosassa, Withlacoochee, Chassahowitzka and Crystal Rivers are all within 15 miles of Sugarmill Woods. Boating, swimming, beaches, canoeing, scuba diving, swimming with the areas' world famous manatees and more, all moments away.

Land based recreation and choices are also plentiful. The area features many golf courses, hiking and biking trails, abundant wildlife, horseback riding, a multitude of parks. The county has over 152,000 acres set aside for wildlife preserves making the area a popular destination for people interested in experiencing Florida at its best - natural and unspoiled.

Sugarmill Woods is near many fine area restaurants and shopping centers. Museums, cultural centers and activities and historical sites are also near Sugarmill Woods. Community members also enjoy fine dining at the Country Club.

Area Attractions Include:

  • Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park
    Florida wildlife exhibits including manatees, alligators, bears, birds, cougars, reptiles, small mammals and more.

  • Ted Williams Museum and Hitters Hall of Fame
    Eight galleries housing a tribute to Ted Williams plus a Hitters Hall of Fame honoring the best hitters of all time.

  • Yulee Sugarmill Ruins State Historic Site
    Historic site dedicated to Yulee Sugarmill (where Sugarmill Woods got it's name). A Cival War era mill which supplied southern troops with sugar during the war.

  • Fort Cooper State Park
    This fort was in use during the 2nd Seminole War. Miles of nature trails are built around the lake within the park where there is a swimming area. Each April a Siminole War battle is re-enacted.

Health Care Information:
There are two hospitals near Sugarmill Woods. Seven Rivers Community Hospital is just north of Crystal River and has 136 beds. Citrus Memorial Hospital is located in Inverness and has 177 beds. There are many nursing homes and adult retirement centers near the community. Ambulance service is 24 hours a day. There are medical centers near the community entrance as well as many more within short distance of Sugarmill Woods.
